As Chief Operating Officer, Ann leads One Medical’s care delivery operations across in-person primary care, virtual care, and administrative services. Ann brings an extensive understanding of healthcare operations and performance improvement with over 20 years’ experience. Prior to joining One Medical, Ann was the Chief Operating Officer at Kaiser Permanente Washington, leading all healthcare operations and strategy for the expansive Washington market. Ann also served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Bon Secours Medical Group in South Carolina. Before her time at Bon Secours Medical Group, Ann spent nearly a decade with Kaiser Permanente, Northern California in various operational roles. Ann received a Bachelor’s of Community Health from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.

Meggen began her healthcare career at Jewish and St. Mary’s Hospital in 2006 after graduating from Spalding University. Her experience there infused her passion for caring for others and she went on to pursue her master’s degree in Nursing from Spalding University in 2009. Meggen’s desire to work on the cutting edge of healthcare in the emerging retail sector inspired her to join The Little Clinic in 2009. After two years of building trusting relationships with her patients and peers, she was promoted to an Advanced Clinical Provider in the Louisville region, where she helped build a culture of inclusion among her associates. One year later she was again promoted to Regional Clinical Director over the Columbus and Dayton regions of The Little Clinic. In 2015 she was promoted to the Southern Region Health and Wellness National Clinical Director and then moved to her current role in 2020 as Chief Nursing Officer and Health and Wellness National Clinical Director. Meggen has many achievements to date including expansion of clinical services, increased operational revenue, reducing turnover rates, improving patient satisfaction scores, improving associate engagement scores and strategically making a strong footprint within the growth of Kroger Health. Meggen achieves results through teamwork and has bolstered the relationship between The Little Clinic, Kroger Pharmacy and the Kroger Executive team.
As part of the affiliation with the General Office team for Kroger Health, Meggen provides excellence in execution by creating a larger network for patients seeking care. Meggen continues to grow the network of clinics under her care, with plans to adapt and the business through innovation strategies such as telehealth. Meggen has been instrumental in the fight against COVID. Meggen helped to orchestrate, design and train the business to deliver COVID testing and vaccine sites across the company, leading to over half a million patients being tested as well as vaccinated.
Meggen is passionate about her role at The Little Clinic and is driving to develop a strong successor plan. Meggen coaches and develops others as she works side by side with her peers and corporate team to identify areas for improvement with both operational results and developing future leaders. As stated by one of Meggen’s supervisor’s Dr. Ken Patric, “Meggen leads through positive influence and I think her strong leadership style is what the regions needed, resulting in her staff respecting her and wanting to follow her.”
Meggen’s extensive experience in the healthcare industry has earned her The Convenient Care Association CARE award in 2011 and Top Women in Grocery Rising Star 2022. Meggen sits on the Workforce Committee, Educational Committee as well as the Executive Board for the Convenient Care Association. Meggen is also a member of The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, Ohio Association of Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau. In 2021 she became an Ambassador for the American Cancer ResercHERS program as well as an Executive Board Member of the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing . In Meggen’s spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters and bulldogs.
Jennie Chin Hansen, a seasoned health care leader, is chair of the SCAN Foundation and serves on health-related boards involving care delivery transformation, long-term services financing and chronic care and intergenerational health and well-being for older adults.
She is a consultant to the Hirsch Philanthropic Advisors working on a San Francisco initiative to support and develop safer and more appropriate care through Geriatric Emergency Departments (GEDs) and emergency service systems that pay particular focus to those who have cognitive challenges including dementia.
During the fall of 2019 she was appointed as a Stakeholder to California’s Department of Health and Human Services to develop the state’s first ever MasterPlan for Aging ([email protected]) as well as the Governor’s Commission on Health Care for All (HCFA).
Prior service includes nearly 25 years with On Lok, Inc., a nonprofit family of organizations providing integrated, globally-financed and comprehensive community-based services for diverse and frail older adults in San Francisco. On Lok’s groundbreaking, globally capitated, and coordinated service delivery became the prototype for the 1997 federal law that incorporated the Program of All Inclusive Care to the Elderly (PACE) into the Medicare and Medicaid programs which now operate in 31 states.
In 2010, she completed her term as president of AARP, during the heat of health care reform of the Affordable Care Act, following six years on its national board of directors during which time the Medicare Part D Plan benefits were signed into law.
From 2010 until April 2015, she was CEO of the American Geriatrics Society where she led a group of nearly 6,000 health professionals devoted to improving the health, independence, and quality of life of all older people especially those dealing with complex health issues and conditions. In addition, over her career she has practiced public health in Idaho and in the first wave of community health centers (aka FQHCs) in the country.
She is a nursing graduate of Boston College and the University of California, San Francisco. She has received various national awards as well as recognition from both universities including an honorary doctorate from Boston College and the UCSF alumnae award in the category for Audacious Alumni in 2019.
Mike serves as the Policy Director for the Convenient Care Association, the international trade association of companies and healthcare systems that provide consumers with accessible, affordable, quality healthcare in retail-based locations. He also serves as Policy Director for the Reference Based Healthcare Association, a newly formed national trade organization of firms deploying innovative tools to reduce healthcare-related cost burdens for employers and consumers alike. Mike holds a Policy Fellowship at Woods Services, a Pennsylvania and New Jersey-based non-profit population health network and advocacy organization that along with its affiliate organizations provides life-long innovative, comprehensive and integrated health, education, housing, workforce, behavioral health and case management services to more than 22,000 children and adults in the intellectual and developmental disability, child welfare, behavioral and brain trauma public health sectors who have complex and intensive medical and behavioral healthcare needs.
Mike serves as Principal in Social Innovations Partners, a consulting firm specializing in collective impact, social entrepreneurship, and design thinking. Mike also has several consulting and advisory roles with international and domestic impact investing funds, human service non-profit agencies, and K-12 schools.
Mike holds an MPA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Scranton’s Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program.
Sean DeGarmo, PhD, APRN, ENP-BC, FNP-BC, ACNS-BC
Director, Advanced Practice Initiatives and Certification Outreach, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Sean DeGarmo, PhD, APRN, ENP-BC, FNP-BC, ACNS-BC is the inaugural Director, Advanced Practice Initiatives. In this role, Dr. DeGarmo serves as the central coordinator and convener of internal and external stakeholders to provide information and coordinate on issues impacting advanced practice nursing within the ANA Enterprise.
Dr. DeGarmo has over 25 years of experience as a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, flight nurse, researcher, consultant and educator in academic and non-academic institutions. He is triple-board certified by ANCC and has served on ANCC content expert panels.
Dr. DeGarmo holds a baccalaureate of science in nursing from the University of the Incarnate Word; a master of science in nursing, a post-graduate degree in nursing as an emergency nurse practitioner, and a doctor of philosophy in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Lisa M. Gables, CPA, is an association executive with extensive experience in healthcare and aging services. She was named chief executive officer of the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) in September 2020 after serving as interim CEO since June 2019.
Gables has been with AAPA since 2012, having served as chief financial officer and chief development officer from May 2012 to September 2020. In these roles she was responsible for overseeing the financial management of the organization, fostering external strategic outreach to individuals and like-minded organizations, and developing and implementing an integrated strategy to generate opportunities to provide AAPA and the PA Foundation with funding to support their missions.
From May 2012 to July 2015, Gables also served as the executive director of the PA Foundation. Prior to joining AAPA and the PA Foundation, she was the executive director of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) Foundation and the chief development and program officer of ASCP where she held similar roles. Before that Gables was the executive director of the National Adult Day Services Association, where she increased awareness of adult day services with federal regulators while managing all aspects of the association’s operations. Prior to that, she served as the chief financial officer of the National Council on Aging and vice president of finance and business development for Active Services Corporation, the nation’s largest adult day services, home care and rehabilitation network.
Gables also served as finance manager and senior financial analyst for Birmingham Baptist Medical Center and held financial positions with ReLife, Inc. and Ernst & Young. She is a certified public accountant with a degree in business administration and accounting from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to her career in aging and health services, Gables serves in several leadership roles, including on the board of the Primary Care Collaborative and as the past Chair of the American Society on Aging. She is also the past treasurer of the Fairfax County Law Enforcement Foundation and currently serves as a volunteer with the Fairfax County Adult Protective Services Agency.

William (Bill) D. Novelli
Founder, Business for Impact, Professor, Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, and Co-Director, New Strategies Program
Bill is an emeritus professor of Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. In the MBA program there he taught: Principled Leadership for Business and Society and also Managing the Enterprise. He earlier created and taught Corporate Social Responsibility as well as Leadership and Management of Nonprofit Organizations.
He founded the Business for Impact Center at McDonough and oversaw the program for over a decade. He now chairs its Advisory Group. The Center has a strong student orientation and partners with companies, nonprofits and government to create social, environmental and economic impact.
Bill is also co-founder and co-chair of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC), a national alliance to reform serious illness/end of life care in the U.S.
Previously, he was CEO of AARP, a membership organization of 40 million people 50 and older. Prior to AARP, Bill was: founder and president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids; EVP of CARE, the international relief and development organization; and co-founder and president of Porter Novelli, a global public relations firm now part of Omnicom.
He began his career in marketing at Unilever, was an account supervisor at a New York advertising agency and later served as Director of Advertising & Creative Services at the Peace Corps.
Bill serves on the boards of: the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (co-chair); the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (chair); Capital Caring Health; Chapters Health System; Strategic Partnerships; the Coalition for Trust in Health & Science (co-chair); the Science & Technology Action Committee (co-chair) and Welcome.US. He also is on the advisory council of the Medical Society Consortium on Climate & Health.
He earlier co-chaired the Culture & Inclusiveness Action Collaborative of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and served on NAM committees on: The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health; and also Dying in America: Improving Quality and Honoring Individual Preferences Near the End of Life.
Bill’s current book is Good Business: The Talk, Fight, Win Way to Change the World (2021, Johns Hopkins Univ. Press). His previous books are: Fifty Plus: Give Meaning and Purpose to the Best Time of Your Life (with Boe Workman, St. Martin’s Press) and Managing the Older Worker: How to Prepare for the New Organizational Order (with Peter Cappelli, Harvard University Press). Bill has a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. from Penn’s Annenberg School for Communication. He pursued doctoral studies at New York University and taught marketing management for ten years in the University of Maryland MBA program; he also taught health communication there.
Angela Patterson, DNP, FNP-BC, NEA-BC, FAANP
Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer of Retail Health
Dr. Patterson is an advanced practice registered nurse, Vice President at CVS Health, and Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer of Retail Health. In her current role, Angela provides clinical and professional practice governance for more than 3,000 Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants/Physician Associates, Medical Assistants, ancillary nursing staff and Behavioral Health Therapists who staff MinuteClinic’s virtual care practice as well as approximately 1,000 retail health clinics located across 34 states and the District of Columbia. She also leads a variety of programs focused on Clinical Quality, Patient Experience, Clinical Training & Education, and Care Delivery Workforce Engagement. In addition, Angela has responsibilities that support the broader organization including senior-level membership on key governance committees including Enterprise Patient Safety, Enterprise Women’s Health Steerco, and the Diversity Management Leadership Council.
Before joining MinuteClinic, Angela spent 20 years as a primary care provider and Clinical Director in an urban-based, family medical practice she co-owned. She also served for 10 years as a principal lecturer and clinical instructor for the Family Nurse Practitioner program in the School for Health Studies at Simmons College in Boston. Angela holds board member appointments with the Convenient Care Association, the Rhode Island Nurses Action Coalition, The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare and NursesMC. She is also a member of the AARP Champion Nursing Coalition.
During her more than 17 years with CVS Health, MinuteClinic has grown from several hundred to approximately 1,000 clinics and has increased care delivery volume from fewer than one million to more than 55 million patient visits. In addition, the organization successfully achieved ANCC Pathway to Excellence® designation for nursing practice excellence. Angela received the 2018 AANP Sharp Cutting-Edge Award for her exemplary work in nursing organizational leadership and was inducted in 2019 as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Angela received her BSN from Simmons College in 1985 and worked as an RN at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. In 1988, she received her MSN and certification as a Nurse Practitioner from Simmons College with distinction. Angela received her Executive DNP from MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2016 and was awarded the institution’s Bette Ann Harris Distinguished Alumni Award in 2023.
Rick Rohrs is a 1977 graduate of the Johns Hopkins PA program and has practiced internal medicine in a hospital setting for the last 45 years, transitioning from a clinical to an administrative role during that time. He has held various positions within Northwest Hospital and LifeBridge Health provider leadership.
Rick served as Assistant Vice President of Provider Operations for many years where he was responsible for the administration of employed and contracted provider services such as Hospitalists, Anesthesia, PAs, Emergency Providers, Hospice, and Surgical assistants. He worked in close collaboration with the President, CMO, and medical staff leadership to align provider and hospital goals. He had also overseen the medical education department as well as serving as community liaison for the Magnet School partnerships with Baltimore City and County public schools. He continues to serve as AVP in a consultative capacity with LifeBridge Health on issues related to providers, contractual relationships, and medical education.
Mr. Rohrs has a long record of professional involvement having served at President and Board Chair of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants, the Physician Assistant Foundation, and the Maryland Academy of Physician Assistants. He was named Outstanding PA of the Year by the Maryland Academy in 1987 and by the AAPA in 2000. He currently serves on the Board as Chair Elect of the NCCPA Health Foundation.
As part of the PA profession’s celebration of the 50th anniversary, he was named one of “50 PAs making a difference” by the NCCPA and received the first ever distinguished life service award from the Maryland Academy. In 2015, he was named a Senior Fellow in Hospital Medicine by the Society of Hospital Medicine. He was the second PA to have received this prestigious honor. In 2020, he was named Outstanding Alumnus of the Community College of Baltimore County.
Rick has been instrumental in many PA regulatory and legislative efforts on both a local and national level. He has served as the chair of the AAPA Government Affairs Committee and well as chair and member of the MAPA Legislative Committee. He has testified countless times on behalf of PA and healthcare legislation.
Additionally, he co-founded the Maryland Educational conference, Trends in Patient Management and managed the program for over 25 years. He has also been a delegate or alternate to the AAPA House on many occasions since the early 80’s. He is a national thought leader on the PA profession and especially their role in Hospital Medicine.
In the past twenty years, he has been involved in international workforce development, serving as the first chair of the AAPA International Affairs committee and then working as a consultant to many countries throughout the world. He has led delegations to the Netherlands, Taiwan, Great Britain, China, Canada, Cuba, and Brazil. He has also done humanitarian missions to Africa.
Rick holds multiple faculty appointments including George Washington University and Towson University. He chairs the Towson PA Program Advisory Committee and, in the past, chaired the self-study committee for GWU where he was awarded the Outstanding Community Service award in 2019. He has been actively involved as a lecturer and preceptor for PA and Medical Students for over forty years.
MaryAnn Sapio, MPA
Vice President Federal Government Affairs
MaryAnne Sapio has served as the Vice President of Federal Government Affairs for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) since 2013. With more than two decades of experience at the federal level, MaryAnne is well established and regarded for her leadership and expertise in health policy and politics. In her capacity at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, she directs all aspects of the federal legislative agenda, including deploying and coordinating grassroots efforts and leading a team of seasoned professionals. MaryAnne is a highly effective Washington leader demonstrated by her strong relationships with policy makers, agency officials, coalition partners, and her numerous legislative and regulatory successes.
Prior to joining AANP, MaryAnne spent seven years at the American Health Care Association, where she served as Senior Director, Government Relations and Federal Advocacy. While at the American Health Care Association, MaryAnne coordinated lobbying activity on issues related to Medicaid, Medicare Part D, Appropriations, Assisted Living, Developmental Disabilities, Survey and Certification, and Life Safety. Her bipartisan reach during her tenure at the American Health Care Association made her a trusted go-to healthcare professional for Members and staff in the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and related federal agencies. In addition to her advocacy duties, she managed the Association’s grassroots team.
MaryAnne began her federal government affairs career in Washington, DC in 2002 when she served as Director of Federal Affairs at Wheat Government Relations. During her four-year tenure, she represented a diverse group of health care, education related, and corporate clients. In addition, she illustrated her appropriation and budget knowledge by securing increased appropriations for nursing and education research at a time when similar programs faced major budget cuts.
MaryAnne has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Master’s of Public Administration. She sits on several coalition steering committees, is a board member of the Public Affairs Council and a member of Women in Government Relations.
Roberta Waite, EdD, PMHCNS, RN, MSN, ANEF, FAAN
Dean, Georgetown University School of Nursing
Dr. Roberta Waite, Dean and Professor at Georgetown University School of Nursing, has spent her nursing career committed to dismantling health care inequities with a special emphasis on community-centered work. Having served on Trinity Health’s corporate health system board, the Governor’s Think Tank to develop guidelines for a Trauma-Informed Commonwealth of PA, and content expert for the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing, Dr. Waite has continuously aligned her efforts with racial and social justice. These efforts continue to be uplifted in her work as Board Director for Family Process Institute, Independence Blue Cross Foundation, Georgetown MedStar hospital as well as her service on Advancing Health Equity’s National Advisory Board supported by the RWJF. Dr. Waite is a staunch advocate for social justice and seeks to enhance community health with a focus on structural and social mechanisms that promote and detract from health. As an inaugural Macy Faculty Scholar, her educational research focused on leadership development of nursing and health professions students using a social justice lens. Most recently, in 2022, Dr. Waite was an awardee of Modern Healthcare’s Excellence in Governance Award because of her work on the corporate health system board with improvements in clinical quality, safety, and health equity, as well as her leadership in the expansion of community health and well-being programs along with her work in leading community outreach programs throughout the pandemic.
Richard Zwickel, the visionary Founder and CEO of POCN, has led the organization to become the largest network for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Associates in the U.S. His leadership has been pivotal in integrating advanced data analytics with strategic engagement strategies, transforming how NPs and PAs contribute to healthcare. Richard’s dedication extends beyond POCN; he sits on Gottesman RTW Academy’s Board of Trustees demonstrating his commitment to both professional and philanthropic endeavors.

Leslie Crutchfield
Strategic Advisor to the Steering Committee
Leslie is the executive director of Business for Impact, adjunct professor of Corporate Social Responsibility at Georgetown McDonough, as well as an author and social change expert.
Crutchfield is author of How Change Happens: Why Some Movements Succeed While Others Don’t (Wiley 2018), noted in The New York Review of Books as offering a blueprint for today’s movement leaders. Crutchfield co-authored the bestselling Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits, recognized by The Economist on its Best Books of the Year list. Also, she co-authored Do More than Give while working at FSG social impact consultants where she serves as a senior advisor.
Previously, Crutchfield was managing director at Ashoka, the global venture fund for social entrepreneurs. In addition, she co-founded and led a national nonprofit social enterprise. Crutchfield has contributed to Fortune, Forbes, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, and Stanford Social Innovation Review, and has appeared on programs such as ABC, FOX, NPR and PBS. She has served as a trustee of SEED Foundation and volunteered with Crossroads Africa.
Crutchfield holds an MBA and B.A. from Harvard University. She teaches corporate social responsibility and nonprofit leadership on LinkedIn Learning.
